Today we tested new third-party unlocking software called Dell Streak Unlocker on Unlock Streak and we're quite impressed. Within minutes our Streak was unlocked. Unlike Rebel SIM, which doesn’t unlock the phone permanently (upon removing Rebel SIM, the phone is locked again), this unlock is permanent and works on all Android versions. Jailbreaking or other alteration methods are not required. Instead, the Dell Streak Unlocker reads the real unlock code that Dell stored on the phone and makes it visible on your PC screen. Once the unlock code is shown, all it takes is to insert a non-original SIM card to enter the code into your phone and the device is unlocked for good. You can upgrade or wipe the phone or install whatever software you want. It will remain unlocked!
Let’s take a closer look.
Before unlocking, you can download the unlocker for free to run a compatibility test on your Streak to tell you whether your Streak can be unlocked or not. If yes, you can go ahead and buy the $29 registration code to do the actual unlock.
The software works on Windows 7, Vista, and XP (32-bit or 64-bit) and it install all necessary drivers automatically. In total, it took us 2 clicks to retrieve the unlock code from the phone once the software was installed on our PC. Easy enough. The phone then rebooted and prompted for the unlock code. We got our Streak on Amazon without signing any contract. It came locked to o2. After unlocking the unit, we had it working with a Lycamobile SIM card.
So why use this software instead of trying to get the unlock code from the carrier? Put simply, carriers only give out codes if you are eligible for it. Usually they look at your account and if you have been using their services long enough, you get the unlock code for free IF they have it available. This brings us to the next point. The unlock code for your particular Streak is based on the phone’s IMEI number, which is a 15-17 digit long unique identification number of the device. If that IMEI number is not stored in the carrier’s unlock database, a code will not be available. We’ve seen this happening from time to time, which leaves the owner of the phone without a choice but to seek some third party unlock service.
So far we’ve seen three ways to get your Dell Streak unlocked. First, carriers may give you the unlock code. Second, if that doesn’t work, you can use a Rebel SIM II but it doesn’t actually unlock the phone permanently. And third, you can use UnlockStreak’s Dell Streak Unlocker. Awesome – This is the magic bullet I have been looking for for months. O2 Unlocks were near impossible in the past and the Rebel SIM card almost broke my phone and never worked very well.
This solution works as described.

For Streak 7, as of March 2011, there is no unlock software BUT there is an unlock code at unlockstreak.com for it.
Does this work with an AT&T locked Dell Streak?
I tried and this does not work for my Dell Streak 5 2.2 in US locked to ATT network.

hello. i am owner of dell streak 7
i live in russia. my friends bring me device from America.
So now i have a problem which i dont know how to decide.
When i made an upgrate of tablet the battery was over and my device have turned off.
So i didnt upgrate it at all. After i turned on it and tried to upgrate it again device wrote that upgrade was sucsseful but after reloading there was nothing new.
so now i cant upgrate my dell streak 7. it can only read files not load. can u help me with my problem?
Awesome unlocker. It does work.
I have a dell streak 5 mini tablet cant watch movies downloaded flashplayer 10.1 and everytime I dwload a movie it states system does not support file.
The Dell Streak, was a tablet phone that fell far short of the consumers expectations.
Dell will most likely release the Streak 2 and this will be stuck on froyo 2.2. A truly disappointing experience that has any former iPhone or HTC user quickly realizing, dude you bought a dell, what did you really expect? Something to compete with Apple?
The Device is capable, Dell’s lack and unwillingness to throw its all behind supporting it, makes it an ok Archos imitator at best.
